NETexponent Affiliate Survey Results to be Released!

NETexponent would like to thank all the participants of our affiliate marketing survey.  We received over 500 completed surveys, making this the biggest independent effort in the affiliate marketing industry thus far with a record number of participants.  We are very excited to analyze the results and plan to release the findings in mid-August.

Best of NETexponentBlog.com

As many of you know, NETexponentBlog.com has launched! The blog is a great way for us to share interesting and relevant industry news and our interpretations, as well as a place for our readers to give us their feedback and discuss our posts.  We’d like to share with you the best industry news we’ve addressed in our blog so far.

New Performance Marketing Alliance in the Works   (back to top)
There have been several attempts to create a major industry organization to support affiliate marketing.  Unfortunately, all fizzled out before they had a chance to take off. We look forward to that changing with the formation of a new group called the Performance Marketing Alliance, whose goal is to raise the visibility and credibility of performance marketing.

NETexponent’s own Peter Figueredo was nominated for the Formation Advisory Board of the PMA.  He graciously accepted the nomination and was then peer-elected by over 100 affiliate marketing industry experts to serve on the board.  Peter is honored to work in the company of ten other industry leaders and is looking forward to helping the PMA get off to a great start.

PPC Competition On Google Will Increase This Q3  (back to top)
Google admittedly pulled back too far on the number of ads they displayed on search result pages in Q1 and Q2—a 40% decrease over the last six months.  They plan to increase the number of ads displayed in Q3, which could result in higher CPCs and more competition on search traffic.

Google Assigns Branding Value to Search   (back to top)
Google’s recent study shows the branding effect of paid search and SEO.

Search Engine Optimization Is A Moving Target  (back to top)
Google admitted to “tweaking” its algorithm over 750 times in 2007 alone. This clearly stresses the importance of constantly refining your SEO best practices.

Google Launches Media Planning Platform  (back to top)
Google has moved one step closer to integrating full display media buying capabilities with yesterday’s announcement of Google Ad Planner.  Right now this is a bare bones research tool that you have to export into a more robust tool like Doubleclick MediaVisor in order to do a complete media buy but one has to believe this is only the first step in what will be a much bigger piece of Google’s business moving forward.

Scott Richter Is Not My Friend  (back to top)
No, I do not want to be your Facebook friend.

Google Research Proves Value of Search and Affiliate  (back to top)
Google recently released a study demonstrating that newspaper ads help drive users to the web.  Google’s research can also be interpreted to show the importance of advertising on affiliate sites and shopping comparison websites.

Visits to Coupon Sites are on the Rise from 2007…  (back to top)
An article published by HitWise says visits to coupon websites are up from 2007, 56% for the week ending June 6, 2008 compared to the same week last year. This is good news for coupon sites and the like.  In more difficult economic times, we can be sure that traffic to economic incentive sites increases.

Yahoo and Google Strike a Syndication Deal  (back to top)
Yahoo and Google announced a formalized deal for ad syndication. Google ads will now run along side Yahoo paid search ads in Yahoo search result pages. This move is a significant step away from a Yahoo + Microsoft merger but does not eliminate the possibility completely.

Google Releases More Trend Data  (back to top)
Google announced recently that they have made some changes to their Google Trends tool which should be of help to search marketing strategists.
