PPC Search, Organic Search, and Affiliate Marketing Top the List
In a recent study released by Shop.org, paid search, organic search, and affiliate marketing top the list of customer acquisition tactics for online retailers. According to the study, PPC search accounts for 35% of new customers on average, 18% through organic search and affiliate marketing ties with email marketing at 17%.

The study also states that 79% of retailers will make PPC search a priority through 2008. This trend reinforces the importance of integrating online marketing into budgets that include traditional media outlets like TV, radio, and print. This combination creates a perfect ROI storm.

Get a Leg Up from Google Checkout
We all know the consumer benefits of Google Checkout, including a streamlined, convenient way to shop anywhere on the internet without having to input credit card information over and over again. But what’s in it for the online merchant? NETexponent is exploring the benefits of using Google Checkout through search ads and has identified several key benefits of the Google service.

If a user sees the icon and has an account with Google Checkout they may be more inclined to purchase from that vendor rather than another based on sheer convenience. Google Checkout also offers a solution in regards to international search. Many clients are extending their paid search reach into foreign countries, but run into a language barrier. Although Google Checkout is only available to US and UK merchants, it is available to consumers in many countries. Using Google Checkout will provide consumers with a checkout process in their native language, bridging the language gap.

NETexponent believes that Google Checkout is not a replacement for a foreign language shopping cart, but does offer a temporary solution as a business converts its website. Google Checkout also has the potential to increase sales and traffic in a cluttered search landscape.

NETexponent Affiliate Research Available to Participants
With over seven years as an agency and decades of experience, NETexponent has created a database of over 25,000 affiliates. This database is used to optimize client affiliate programs and we have recently created a publisher survey to be distributed to the group. NETexponent will use the affiliate feedback to reinforce agency best practices, create new ones, and strengthen affiliate relationships by gaining key insight to their wants and needs. Affiliates who participate in the survey will receive a full report of the results as well.

MarketingSherpa has already expressed interest in our study and we look forward to sharing the knowledge with our clients and affiliate partners. If you are a publisher and would like to participate in the survey please email us at Publishers@NETexponent.com
